Cost to keep Canada's submarines in water for another decade will near $2.5B: defence sources

Defence sources say it will cost upwards of 2.5 billion dollars to keep Canada's submarines in the water for another decade.

Ottawa is planning to spend billions more for the navy's small fleet of four submarines to keep them operating into the 2030s.

The plan is part of the Liberals' new defence policy and follows calls from senior naval officers to save the controversial ships from the scrap heap.

But the actual price of the plan was not revealed in the policy document.
