Council to Improve Classroom Conditions announces 2018-19 funding targets
The provincial government says the Council to Improve Classroom Conditions will fund 57 new high school teachers in the 2018-19 school year.
The council says the new teachers will be hired for schools outside the Halifax Regional Centre for Education (HRCE) to provide a more of a balance to funding as two-thirds of the 2017-18 class size funding went to the HRCE.
The cost for that initiative is pegged at $5.2 million.
Funding will also continue in areas such as maintaining the junior high and high school class caps by again investing $8.9 million to fund 99 junior high and high school teachers, and $1.3 million to fund 14 attendance support workers.
The council's budget for the upcoming school year was increased to $20 million, and government says there is $1.78 million remaining.
