Crown to appeal acquittal of former boxing champ
The Crown has announced it will appeal the acquittal of former championship boxer Markel Jason Downey in a violent home invasion in Cole Harbour.
The 20-year-old was charged after three people were shot at the home in Nov. 2014.
Downey was accused of being one of four masked men who invaded the home, but Nova Scotia Supreme Court Justice Michael Wood ruled in February that there was insufficient evidence to convict him.
The Crown's case relied mainly on testimony from Ashley MacLean Kearse, who was left paralyzed from the chest down.
