Donation to NSCC fund to help students in need access food

A $500,000 contribution to the Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) by food service provider Chartwells is aiming to help students in need have access to food.

The donation will be spread over the next five academic years, providing meal vouchers or swipe cards for their dining halls, and through grocery-store gift cards for use off-campus.

Chartwells provides food at the Truro, Ivany, Kingstec, and Institute of Technology campuses.

Ashton Sequeira, President of Chartwells' parent company Compass Group, says, "As the foodservice provider at four NSCC campuses, we see firsthand the considerable obstacles faced by some students, and we know that with a bit of help, they can overcome these barriers."

The contribution was made through to the NSCC’s Urgent Aid Fund via Make Way - The Campaign for NSCC.

NSCC President Don Bureaux says the fund is there to help students address unanticipated financial challenges that may affect their ability to remain in school and get back on track.
