Driver charged after pedestrian struck in crosswalk

New Glasgow Police say they have charged a Pictou County man after a pedestrian was struck in a crosswalk yesterday.

Officers from New Glasgow Regional Police, the New Glasgow Fire Department and the Emergency Health Service responded to a crash involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Abercrombie Road and Elm Street around 10:40 a.m.

Police say the 65-year-old female pedestrian from New Glasgow was travelling across Abercrombie Road in a marked crosswalk when she was struck by the 2010 Toyota Corolla.

She was taken to hospital by EHS with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the driver, a 29-year-old man from Pictou County was charged with failing to yield to pedestrian in crosswalk.

New Glasgow Regional Police says they are continuing the investigation.
