Ellerhouse wind farm expansion approved
The province's Minister of Environment has given the green light to the expansion of the Ellerhouse Wind Farm.
Minas Energy, on behalf of the Alternative Resource Energy Authority (AREA), registered the proposed project for an environmental assessment in November.
The project will double the existing 16.4 megawatt wind farm by adding another seven 2.35 megawatt turbines.
The process was put on hold last month, as Margaret Miller said additional details are needed about sound level modeling and archaeological resources.
The company filed an addendum, and Miller said in a decision yesterday she's satisfied that any adverse effects or significant environmental effects of the project can be mitigated through compliance with a number of terms and conditions.
The company has said they hope to begin construction this year, with operations to begin in 2018.
