Ellerhouse Wind Farm expansion on hold

Nova Scotia's Minister of Environment says more information is needed before a decision can be made regarding a proposed expansion of the Ellerhouse Wind Farm.

In a letter to the Alternative Resource Energy Authority (AREA), Margaret Miller says additional details are needed about sound level modeling and archaeological resources.

Minas Energy, on behalf of AREA, registered the proposed expansion for an environmental assessment in November.

The project would double the existing 16.4 megawatt wind farm by adding another seven 2.35 megawatt turbines.

Upon submission of the requested information, Miller has 50 days to make her decision.

AREA had hoped to begin construction mid-2017, with operations beginning near the end of 2018.
