Expanded Equipment Options for Emergency Services Provider Fund

The province says changes made to the Emergency Services Provider Fund Program this year will benefit volunteer fire departments and ground search and rescue teams.

The annual program provides funding to volunteer fire departments and ground search and rescue operations, including hazardous material (HAZMAT) organizations, for equipment used to respond to fires and emergencies.

In a press release, the Department of Municipal Affairs says applicants will now be able to choose from a wider range of eligible equipment, including GPS and mapping/tracking software.

Further, applicants will now be able to purchase equipment from two additional categories, for a total of three out of six.

The categories are:
- personal protective equipment;
- communications;
- rescue equipment;
- firefighting equipment;
- hazardous material (HAZMAT) equipment;
- miscellaneous equipment;

The Department of Municipal Affairs says the program provides up to 75% of eligible costs to a maximum of $20,000.00 and organizations can apply for funding every three years.

Applications will be accepted from today until June 21.
