Expanded Learn 2 Fish programs being offered throughout the province this spring

Expanded Learn 2 Fish programs for children and their families are being offered around the province this spring.

Government says for the first time a community event for adults and children will be available in each recreational fishing area in the province.

Locally, Community Learn 2 Fish Sessions are scheduled at the St. Croix Pond in Hants County on June 2nd, at the Kiwanis Pond in Truro on June 21st, and at Trenton Park in Trenton on June 24th.

The program aims to teach the basics of sportfishing, like how to assemble a tackle, casting with both open and closed-face reels, and proper handling for catch-and-release, along with ethics and environmental stewardship.

Fisheries and Aquaculture Minister Keith Colwell says the sessions help make youth in Nova Scotia more interested in angling, while also planting the seeds for a lifelong love of the outdoors to ensure sportfishing continues to benefit rural economies.
