Fire crews contain field fire in Truro

Fire crews fought to contain a grass fire in Truro on Friday.

The Truro Daily News reports the Cobequid Fire Brigade responded just after 3 p.m. to a field behind the Canadian Tire, near the McClures Brook.

The fire was brought under control within half an hour and was fully extinguished before 4 p.m.

Trevor Forbes, deputy chief of the Cobequid Fire Brigade, tells the Truro Daily News that grass fires usually don't start themselves, adding that the dry and windy conditions were ideal for the flames to rapidly spread.
