Fire departments from three counties respond to blaze in East Hants

Firefighters from more than a dozen departments were brought in to help battle a fire in Upper Rawdon Tuesday night.

The call came in around 6:20 p.m., and mutual aid was quickly requested after a large pile of tires was reported to be on fire at Country Hills Auto Sales and Recycled Parts on Highway 354.

According to the Hants Journal, an excavator was brought in to help firefighters tackle the burning pile, which sources close to the scene say contained an estimated 1,000 tires and vehicle-related debris.

Reports indicate the bulk of the fire was knocked down shortly after 10 p.m. 

Mutual aid involved departments from Brooklyn, Nine Mile River, Gore, Rawdon, Kennetcook, Noel, Indian Brook, Windsor, Shubenacadie, Maitland, Lantz, Elmsdale, Dutch Settlement, Enfield, Hantsport, Milford, and Stewiacke.

The Department of Natural Resources, EHS and RCMP also responded.
