Fire extensively damages two neighbouring homes in Amherst

Four people are safe, but have been displaced following a double house fire in Amherst.

Monday's fire, reported around 8:30 p.m., extensively damaged two neighbouring bungalows on Edgewood Avenue, as well as a vehicle parked between them.

Disaster volunteers with the Canadian Red Cross have arranged emergency lodging and food for a man from one house.

They also provided minor support to a couple and their 20-year-old grandson from the second house.

The Red Cross says all four people expect additional support through insurance Tuesday.

There's no word on the cause of the fire.
