Firefighters come together to swap and sell gear

A Facebook group is looking to help firefighters keep the cost of gear down.

Nova Scotia Fire Equipment Swap and Trade or Sell has over 1,500 members, with gear up for grabs often at a steep discount.

Tim MacNeil, a firefighter with Shubenacadie Fire and Emergency Services, started the group when he was with the Lantz fire department.

CBC reports the Lantz crew wanted to donate some extra breathing apparatuses, but MacNeil couldn't find a way to let other departments know the gear was available apart from calling each and every one of them.

MacNeil tells CBC, "We're all firefighters and we're all brothers and sisters, so if we can help out our brother or sister, that's what we're going to do."
