A former MHL player is on his way to selection camp for Team Canada ahead of the 2018 World Junior Hockey Championships.

Former Valley Wildcats forward 19-year-old Drake Batherson, who is from New Minas, was one of 32 players named to the camp roster Wednesday.

He played with the Wildcats for part of the 2015-16 season before making his way to the QMJHL with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.

The MHL says he is one of three QMJHL players who will attend the selection camp in St. Catherines, Ontario next week.

The 2018 World Junior Hockey Championships will take place in Buffalo, New York from December 26th, 2017 - January 5th, 2018.
