Former N.S. teacher faces 64 additional sex-related charges involving youths

A former teacher is facing 64 additional charges in connection with sexual assault allegations dating back to the 1970s and 1980s, mostly in the Halifax region.

66-year-old Michael Patrick McNutt was arrested at Halifax Regional Police headquarters yesterday morning.

The additional charges laid against the 66-year-old Halifax man include 21 counts of gross indecency, 13 counts of indecent assault, and 16 counts of sexual assault.

Police say his 20 alleged victims were youths at the time of the offences, and that McNutt was in a position of trust, as a teacher or volunteer coach.

Police launched an investigation in October 2016 after several people came forward and say McNutt now faces a total of 91 charges involving 33 alleged victims.
