Former teacher facing historical sex charges involving three Halifax students

A former Halifax teacher is facing charges of alleged historical sexual assaults against three students.

Police say 77-year-old Jaddus Joseph Poirier is facing 16 charges stemming from alleged incidents in the Halifax area in the 1980s and 90s.

They say they began an investigation in October 2016 after several people came forward about sexual assaults between the 1970s and 1990s.

Poirier was arrested in Halifax on Wednesday.

He faces three counts of gross indecency, six counts of sexual assault, three counts of sexual exploitation, and two counts each of sexual interference and invitation to sexual touching.

He was scheduled to appear in Dartmouth provincial court Thursday.
