Future of former Pictou Academy building to be discussed at public meeting on Wednesday
The Town of Pictou wants to hear ideas about what to do with the former Pictou Academy.
An information gathering session will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday night at the small gymnasium of the former high school, which was closed last June as the school board reconfigured grades at the former Dr. Thomas McCulloch Junior High and Pictou Elementary.
The town says the property under consideration includes the main building and the property on the Louise Street and Patterson Street sides, as the gyms and parking lot continue to be used by the Chignecto Central Regional Centre for Education.
A survey to gather input on the matter was released on the town's website on March 29th.
More details are expected Wednesday on the amount of work needed to repair and operate the building, but the municipality says demolition is a last resort.
The town says it would expect to see operational costs for the building recovered or paid for by the user of the space, which could mean ownership would be transferred to another organization or group.
