Halifax mayor to raise Red Cross flag in front of city hall on Monday

The Mayor of Halifax is raising the flag of the Red Cross in front of city hall Monday in recognition of the organization's service to Canadians.

The 10 a.m. flag raising is also designed to recognize current volunteers and staff, and to recruit and train more volunteers.

The Red Cross was established internationally 155 years ago and today is the world's largest humanitarian network.

Its flagship program of disaster relief in Canada started with the Halifax Explosion in 1917.
