Halifax Typographical Union responds to sale of Transcontinental newspapers
The Halifax Typographical Union has issued a statement in response to the purchase of all Transcontinental newspapers in Atlantic Canada by SaltWire Network Inc., which publishes the Chronicle Herald.
HTU president Ingrid Bulmer says the Herald's claim that cutting wages and other benefits were necessary to save the company was a "fabrication."
The unioun also says the announcement is in "stark contrast" to the concessions and demands that the Herald has insisted upon from its striking newsroom staff over the past 16 months.
The 54 reporters, photographers, editors and support staff who make up the HTU have been on strike since January 2016.
