Higher water rates in effect in East Hants
People on municipal water in East Hants are paying more for the service.
New water rates, approved last year, went into effect April 1st.
According to the municipality's website, the increase will mean residential customers will be paying, on average, about $40 more a year for water.
The base rate for the residential 5/8" meter is $45.91 -- up $1.50.
The new consumption rate per 1000 gallons is $12 -- an increase of one dollar.
Another rate increase will come into effect April 1st, 2019.
The base rate will increase, at that time, by $1.09 and the consumption rate will be bumped up 34 cents.
