Lunenburg County man charged following armed standoff with RCMP

A 47-year-old Elmwood man has been arrested following a standoff with Lunenburg District RCMP after a woman said a man was threatening violence and would not let her leave.

RCMP say the man fired the weapon as officers were en route to the scene on Elmwood Road.

The man was located outside, while the woman was still in the home, and at one point RCMP say the man pointed the gun at police.

The suspect eventually surrendered to police, who seized a loaded shotgun and ammunition.

The man is charged with forcible confinement, as well as a number of firearms offences, and is due in court Tuesday.
