Major announcement is expected Friday for the P.E.I.-Nova Scotia ferry service

A major announcement is expected tFriday for the P.E.I-Nova Scotia ferry service.

The Charlottetown Guardian reports P.E.I Premier Wade MacLauchlan and federal Agriculture Minister Lawrence MacAulay, who represents a riding in the province, will be among those on hand for a news conference Friday in Belfast.

It says there is speculation a new ferry will be announced but says no officials would comment Wednesday.

Northumberland Ferries had to operate a reduced crossing schedule last summer after the 45-year-old MV Holiday Island spent last year in dry dock in Quebec undergoing repair.
