Man arrested in connection with Yarmouth shooting incident

A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a shooting incident in Yarmouth last week which injured a 32-year-old man.

Officers were called to the scene on Regent Street on Thursday night after a call said there were people smashing a parked vehicle and then gunshots were heard.

Police said the suspect vehicle, a red pickup truck, sped away from the scene.

Ronald Dempsey Higby of Yarmouth was located on a wooded trail near Ellis Road and arrested without incident.

RCMP say he faces charges of attempted murder, endangering the life of a person, breach of probation, and a number of firearms offences.

Dempsey appeared in court yesterday and has been remanded into custody until his next appearance on April 3rd.

Police say Ground Search and Rescue teams helped search for evidence on Saturday, and located parts of the firearm and some ammunition believed to have been used by Dempsey in this incident.

The incident remains under investigation, and police have not said whether or not they're still looking to determine the occupant or occupants of the truck.
