Man charged with dangerous driving and assaulting police

A 29-year-old man is facing a number of charges, including assaulting police, following a dangerous driving incident in Hants County earlier this week.

Around 10 p.m. Tuesday, East Hants District RCMP responded to a call of an erratic driver.

Officers located the vehicle and made several attempts to stop it, but the driver wouldn't stop, and nearly struck an RCMP officer before side-swiping a police vehicle in Upper Nine Mile River.

The driver of the small, red car was eventually arrested after a short struggle with police.

He was taken to the Truro hospital to be checked out, but wasn't injured.

None of the officers were hurt either.

The RCMP say Michael Alexander Stockermans has been charged with dangerous driving, assaulting police, assault with a weapon, mischief, resisting arrest, and flight from police.
