Man charged with murder following the death of a Cape Breton woman

A 40-year-old man has been charged with murder following the death of  a 33-year-old woman who was found inside a Cape Breton home.

Police tell CTV Atlantic that Richard Wayne MacNeil of Gardiner Mines is scheduled to appear in Sydney provincial court on Wednesday to face a charge of first-degree murder in the woman’s death.

CTV Atlantic says sources report the woman worked with the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board and that the Gardiner Mines home was occupied by a couple.

They also say the school board confirmed on Wednesday that grief counsellors are talking to students and staff at Tompkins Memorial Elementary.

Cape Breton Regional Police say they were called to the home on Tuesday in Gardiner Mines, where they found the woman's body and arrested a man.
