Man was in relationship with Halifax yoga teacher when he killed her: Crown
A Crown lawyer says Nicholas Butcher was in a relationship with a popular yoga instructor when he murdered her and tried to kill himself inside Kristin Johnston's Halifax-area home.
Prosecutor Tanya Carter told the jury at Butcher's second-degree murder trial that the two were in a relationship in March 2016, but that Johnston intended to break up with him.
Carter says on the evening of March 25, 2016, Johnston was at a friend's house, and that Butcher found out and showed up there twice.
She says the next morning, Butcher called 911 from Johnston's home and said he tried to kill himself and his girlfriend.
Carter says the medical examiner will say Johnston died of 10 wounds to her neck from sharp force.
She alleged that Butcher, who has pleaded not guilty to the charge, couldn't be without Johnston and that "her life ended in tragedy."
