Maritime beef producers call on government for support to grow beef industry

Organizations representing cattle producers in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island are calling on federal and provincial governments for support to grow the Maritime Beef Industry.

The Maritime Beef Council says in a news release that they recently introduced a new growth strategy to industry and government leaders during the Atlantic Beef Summit, which began on Tuesday in Fox Harb’r.

A number of goals were presented, including creating professional development opportunities, improving quality of forage and pastures, and developing risk and business management tools.

Chair of the Maritime Beef Council Nathan Phinney says the beef sectors in the Maritime Provinces are too small to take on the growth to meet the market demand, and he adds the path to increase cattle production is one that includes an industry-wide, regional approach.
