Milford man arrested following hours-long standoff

A 63-year-old man from Milford has been arrested after a standoff at a home on Bayberry Drive.

Paramedics and fire personnel were called to assist with a medical call around 2:30 p.m. Saturday, and police say the man threatened to burn the house down.

The emergency responders left the area and called RCMP after the man said he had a gun and later threatened police.

RCMP officers from East Hants, Millbrook, and Indian Brook responded and the man was arrested at 12:40 a.m. Sunday.

A search of the scene led to a .22 calibre rifle being seized.

The scene was contained throughout the incident, with people in nearby homes asked to evacuate or stay in their basements until the situation was resolved.

The man was held in custody and the RCMP say he faces a number of charges.
