MLA Pat Dunn calls for 'Dutch Reach' to be included in driving handbook

Pat Dunn, the Progressive Conservative MLA for Pictou Centre, is calling on the government to pass a bill that would require drivers to practice the "Dutch Reach"

The "Dutch Reach" requires drivers and the passengers of a vehicle to open the door with the hand that is furthest from the door handle.

The bill, which would include the "Dutch Reach" in the Nova Scotia Driver's Handbook, was introduced in the Legislature on Thursday.

Dunn says this addition to the handbook would encourage drivers to turn their bodies toward the door, so that they could spot incoming cyclists.
