A lack of physician coverage has been given as the reason for the closures at all three facilities.

The most recent announcement of ER closures came the same day the provincial government announced the addition of 39 health professionals being added to collaborative family practice teams across Nova Scotia.

They include 15 nurse practitioners, 17 family practice nurses, six social workers, and a part-time physiotherapist.

Locally, a family practice nurse is being added in Springhill, while a family practice nurse and a nurse practitioner are heading to Westville.

The province says new collaborative family practice teams are launching in Dartmouth, Kentville, North Sydney, and Glace Bay.

Government says additional health professionals being hired for other communities to address immediate needs and, eventually, take on new patients.

Those communities include Pictou, Parrsboro, and New Glasgow.
