More patients in Nova Scotia gain a family doctor in June due to physician incentive program

The province says 2,417 patients across the province gained a family doctor in June.

The updated Patient Attachment Incentive Trust, released Thursday, show 403 doctors have submitted claims, taking on a total of 5,310 patients since April 1st.

Fifty-six family doctors have taken on 417 patients in the northern region, an increase of 13 family doctors and 172 patients from May.

The $6.4 million Patient Attachment Incentive Trust was announced in March. 

Family doctors are eligible for a one-time incentive of $150 per patient for accepting someone from the provincial wait list, or physicians who take on new patients referred from an emergency department or a practice where a doctor is retiring or moving.


Breakdown per zone (via the Nova Scotia Government:

  • Central - 215 family doctors have taken on 2,643 patients
  • Eastern - 61 family doctors have taken on 823 patients
  • Western - 79 family doctors have taken on 1,427 patients
  • Northern - 56 family doctors have taken on 417 patients
