N.S. byelection date set for June in seat long held by New Democrats

A provincial byelection has been called for a riding on the outskirts of Halifax that has long been an NDP stronghold.

Elections Nova Scotia announced today the election date for the riding of Sackville-Cobequid will be June 18.

The riding was held for 15 years by former paramedic Dave Wilson, who stepped down from the legislature last November.

The New Democrats have announced that school teacher Lara Fawthrop is running to replace Wilson.

The Liberal candidate is Michel Hindlet, a retired sales and marketing specialist, while Halifax councillor Steve Craig is running for the Progressive Conservatives.

Anthony Edmonds, an aerospace engineer, has been nominated as the Green party candidate.
