New art contest seeks submissions inspired by Viola Desmond

A new art contest in Atlantic Canada is seeking submissions inspired by Viola Desmond.

MacGillivray Injury and Insurance Law is seeking artwork inspired by Desmond's act of protest in 1946 at the Roseland Theatre in New Glasgow as the firm's Jamie MacGillivray is currently working to restore the former theatre.

A news release from the firm says the winning artwork will be digitized onto architectural panels and then permanently displayed on the brick exterior of the building.

Around $20,000 in awards are expected to be given out through the contest, which is open to people of all ages from across the Atlantic provinces.
