New Glasgow man arrested on child pornography charges

The RCMP says a New Glasgow man is under arrest on child pornography charges.

Officers searched a home in New Glasgow on Thursday, and police say they were directed to the residence after a social media company alerted them that child pornography was being shared on their platform.

RCMP say that while he was being arrested, the man reached under a desk for what appeared to be a handgun.

Police say the weapon was safely removed from the suspect and it was later determined the gun was a replica.

The RCMP say an officer and the suspect suffered minor injuries during the arrest, but neither required treatment.

20-year-old Nicholas Linthorne of New Glasgow is charged with the following offences:
- Transmitting Child Pornography
- Possession of Child Pornography
- Resisting Arrest
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Using an imitation firearm while committing the indictable offence of resisting arrest
- Assaulting a Peace Officer with a weapon

Police say Linthorne made a court appearance and was remanded into custody until his next court date on February 5.
