New Glasgow to officially unveil 'Viola's Way' Friday

The Town of New Glasgow will officially unveil 'Viola's Way' later this week.

'Viola's Way' is named after Viola Desmond, a black businesswoman who was arrested, thrown in jail for 12 hours and fined after she refused to leave the whites-only section of New Glasgow's former Roseland Theatre on November 8, 1946.

The official unveiling of the street sign is set for Friday at noon, at the corner of Provost and Forbes streets, next to the former Roseland Theatre building.

Desmond's sister, Wanda Robson, will be at the unveiling, plus there will be entertainment and refreshments.

People will also be able to check out the new $10.00 bill featuring Desmond, which is set to debut later this year.
