New Primary Health-Care Centre announced in Middleton

Soldiers Memorial Hospital expansion

The provincial government is continuing its series of healthcare announcements with word that construction of a new primary health-care centre beside Soldiers Memorial Hospital in Middleton will soon get underway.

Premier Stephen McNeil made the announcement Tuesday, saying the new facility will replace the aging medical clinic next to the hospital.

At a cost of around $12 million, the new health centre will be about six times larger than the existing building, with more exam rooms and meeting rooms, new space for health professionals visiting the centre, and more space for training medical residents.

Government says a construction tender for the clinic was issued last week, with work expected to take about a year beginning this fall.
