New school, health centre, nursing home hub announced for New Waterford

Nova Scotia Government

The Premier has announced that Breton Education Centre in New Waterford will be replaced and will share a site with new, modern health-care facilities.

Stephen McNeil says, "A community hub model is an exciting and innovative opportunity for New Waterford because it brings community resources together in one place."

The Grade 6 to 12 facility is 48 years old and government says a consultation determined that replacement was the best option.

The new community centre is expected to provide the same services as the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital, including x-rays and ultrasounds, blood collection, cardiac services, counselling, and space for after-hours clinics.

Government says the new 60-bed long-term care home adds 36 new beds to the community.

Construction is planned to begin in fall 2020.
