Nolan Pike to deliver keynote address at 'Stand Up. Speak Out.' event
A well-known LGBTQ* community educator and transgender person will deliver the keynote address at the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board's (CCRSB) 'Stand Up. Speak Out.' event on Thursday at CEC.
Nolan Pike has travelled throughout the Maritimes working with schools and other organizations to build more inclusive environments.
He's headed the Youth Project, which provides services to Nova Scotia youth around the issues of sexual orientation and gender identity, and Equity Educate, which offers consultation, professional development, and resources to help create a more equitable environment for staff, clients, and students.
CCRSB Superintendent and CEO Gary Adams says Pike's ability to support a better understanding of the key issues facing the LGBTQ* community is second to none.
'Stand Up. Speak Out.' is held each September to promote social justice, respect, anti-bullying and understanding.
Mystery doors were placed throughout the area in August, which were revealed to be symbolic of open door, open mind.
The colours represented the five pillars of social justice: gender, class, race, abilities, and sexual orientation.
