North River area voters say 'yes' to the sale of alcohol
Voters in Colchester County's District 8 have voted in favour of allowing the sale of alcohol in their community.
Returning officer Lorraine Dawson tells our newsroom the unofficial count for the North River area plebiscite was 207 total votes.
One-hundred and eighty of those were "yes" votes, 26 were "no" votes and there was one spoiled ballot.
Voter turnout for the plebiscite was 16%.
There have been 40 similar plebiscites across the province over the last 20 years and Andy LeBlanc of Elections Nova Scotia says most of them approved the sale of alcohol.
