Nova Scotia RCMP say report of man with gun turned up replica weapon

Nova Scotia RCMP say the firearm at the centre of a major police response was a replica.

Cumberland District RCMP say they got a call Friday evening about a man with a gun near Main and Grey streets in Springhill, about 20 kilometres southeast of Amherst.

Police say a significant response was dispatched, including an RCMP canine unit.

When officers located the man they did not find a weapon, but later confirmed the report was related to a plastic replica gun.

Police say toy and replica guns can be easily mistaken for the real thing and may be reported as such.

They say any calls received about firearms will be treated as legitimate until officers can prove determine they are not.
