Nova Scotia's health authorities ask government to appoint conciliator as talks break down

Nova Scotia's health authorities have asked the provincial government to appoint a conciliator to help them reach a new contract with the province's health-care unions.

The Nova Scotia Health Authority and the IWK Health Centre in Halifax have asked the Department of Labour to step in as talks have broken down.

The Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union says sick leave benefits remains a sticking point.

A spokeswoman for the government has confirmed the province will appoint a conciliator.
