Nova Scotia woman honoured for outstanding Indigenous leadership

A Nova Scotia woman is being recognized by the Governor General of Canada for her outstanding Indigenous leadership with a Sovereign's Medal for Volunteers.

Pamela Glode-Desrochers was among 30 people being honoured by Governor General David Johnston during a special ceremony at Rideau Hall in Ottawa on Monday.

The executive director of the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre, Glode-Desrochers has worked for 40 years to reduce poverty and crime.

She also promotes the personal and community well-being of Halifax’s urban Aboriginal population.
