NS Government announces plan to implement recommendations on municipal expenses

The Nova Scotia government says it will implement most of the recommendations of the Joint Municipal Accountability and Transparency Committee by this spring.

The recommendations released today include requiring municipalities to strengthen expense claim and hospitality policies, requiring municipalities and villages to have a code of conduct and strengthening municipal audits.

Although not specifically recommended by the committee, the province will require municipalities to post their hospitality expenses online.

Municipal Affairs Minister Zach Churchill says the report will help Nova Scotia's municipalities in being open and transparent.
