NS Immigration Minister's husband due in court on assault charge
(CP) - The husband of Nova Scotia's immigration minister is due in court Thursday for a bail hearing after being charged with assaulting her.
Police say 58-year-old Maroun Diab was arrested early New Year's Day and appeared in court on Tuesday on charges of assault, overcoming resistance by choking and three counts of uttering threats.
Immigration Minister Lena Diab was among three alleged victims identified in court.
Diab, a lawyer and business owner, was appointed Nova Scotia's first female justice minister after winning office in October 2013 in a Halifax-area riding.
