NS NDP introduces legislation to cap class sizes
The Nova Scotia NDP has introduced legislation to cap class sizes at every grade level.
New Democrats say the legislation is based on a proposal put forward by the Nova Scotia Teachers Union during the bargaining process.
They say documents developed during the negotiations between government and the union indicate it would cost about $41 million to extend caps on class sizes to all grade levels.
MLAs have been debating a bill that would impose a four-year contract on educators and end their work-to-rule campaign.
Earlier this week, the province said current class size caps would be maintained under the bill, and a council would look at class sizes as part of its mandate to address classroom issues
