NSCC Pictou Campus trades, innovation centre named in honour of former Premier John Hamm
The NSCC Pictou Campus has unveiled the Honourable Dr. John F. Hamm Trades & Innovation Centre.
The $15.2 million, 28,000 square foot building provides a specialized training space for students enrolled in carpentry, cabinetry, motor vehicle repair and heavy duty equipment programs.
Funding was announced in 2016, with $6.9 million from the federal government and $8.3 million from the province.
While Premier in 2003, Hamm announced a landmark $123-million investment for the NSCC's expansion plan, which included $11 million at the time for major renovations to the Pictou Campus.
It led to added space for 2,500 students across the province, which was a 25 per cent increase.
NSCC President Don Bureaux says they hope students who study in the new facility are inspired by the former premier's "conviction in the unlimited power of education."
