NSP phone scam surfaces in Halifax area

Nova Scotia Power (NSP) is warning customers about a new phone scam, targeting business and commercial customers in the Halifax area.

The utility says the caller poses as a representative of the company and demands a cash payment at a designated location or risk having their power disconnected the same day.

NSP says they don't require in-person bill payments, and the company would never call out of the blue and issue an ultimatum on first contact.

Any customers who are suspicious about a request for payment are urged to call the company’s Customer Care Centre, and report any attempted fraud to local police.
