Oxford boil water order to remain in place until at least Wednesday

**UPDATE - The boil water order was lifted Thursday, November 8. The water utility says the water is safe for customers to consume and the no longer need to boil it.**

It looks like it will be at least Wednesday before the boil water order is lifted in Oxford.

In the latest update from the town, officials say the Department of Environment requires the water utility to conduct tests to make sure there are no pathogens or bacteria in the water before the order can be lifted.

Test results are expected to be back by the end of the day Wednesday.

Until the boil order is lifted, Oxford Water Utility customers should boil water for at least one minute if they're going to use it for drinking, making ice cubes, washing food or brushing teeth.

The order was put in place over the weekend after a power outage at the utility's chlorination plant.
