PC leader calling for high school rugby to be reinstated

Progressive Conservative Leader Tim Houston says the Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation should reinstate high school rugby.

The federation released a memo Thursday, saying the decision to cancel high school rugby was made after a thorough review of incident report data provided by the School Insurance Program.

The decision has resulted in widespread shock and anger from the public.

Houston says the announcement was shortsighted and, if anything, should have come with adequate notice, not part way through the season.

He says he can appreciate that the federation has its explanations, but they waited until one month into a season to axe rugby.

And Houston says that's just wrong.

He says the fair thing to do is reinstate the program so players can finish out the season.
