Phony American money circulating in New Glasgow area

New Glasgow Regional Police are warning there are phony American bills circulating in the area.

The reported bills have been in $100 denominations.

Constable Ken Macdonald says the fake $100 bills appear to be very realistic and authentic, adding technology has become increasingly sophisticated in making these bills.

He says that makes it a lot harder to distinguish the real from the phony.

Police advise that legitimate American currency has a number of security features: watermarks, colour-shifting bell in the inkwell symbol, a security thread embedded vertically and in the case of the $100 bill, a blue ribbon woven into the paper.
